I actually applied something I learned in high school yesterday.
It was almost like a revelation. I was like.."wow, I know what you were
speaking of lady!" Part of me is almost tickled to send a thank you
Halloween fruit basket to one of my teachers, and the other half is
saving that money for reserves...but that's another problem to solve.
In drama class yesterday, Ms. Sube's literature skills came into play.
That horrible red book actually gave me something to use at school.
We started our Shakespeare monologues yesterday. In which, our midterm
would consist of selecting a sonnet from Shakespeare and thus
performing it etc. for the rest of the company. It seems simple enough,
but all the junk she tells us gets a person so confused, all of it just
meshes and mixes in your head til you have no idea what just happened.
Anywho, she had a sonnet on the board (coincidentally, the sonnet the
T.A.'s used for an example was the sonnet I performed in Ms. Sube's
class for 10 extra points! CRAZY SHIT) which began "My mistresses eye are nothing like the sun..." For
the sonnet, she wanted us to seperate the sonnet by "beats," kind of
like the breath you take when you say like a speech, a meter. Through
this, my professor Ms. Alma Martinez, spoke about iambi pentameter.
DO YOU SEE THAT FORMER LIT STUDENTS??? IAMBIC PENTAMETER.
Who'da thought that tidbit would be necessary one day.
Anyhow, she spoke about it and I got it. Haha, a short story indeed,
but still the message can be made clear that maybe some shit in high
school may be relevant. Maybe not all the stupid drama we created for
ourselves back in the day, but actual random bits of survival learned
in High School can really be made applicable to college.
It's nuts!
